Reglar Wiglar zine #27

Chris Auman’s long-running publication, Reglar Wiglar, makes its full-color comic-book debut for issue #27. Started in 1993 as a spoof of alternative music magazines, Reglar Wiglar evolved from those inauspicious beginnings into a print zine covering music and comics, a digital magazine, then back to print again. Features in this hilarious issue include  “A Portrait of the Artist as a (Very) Young Man,” where Auman critiques his childhood artwork from the viewpoint of a “famous art critic” and “Working with a Hangover” where he offers advice under the guise of a parasitic worm named Sucky. Fans of ’80s hardcore will love “Donald Trump on Black Flag,” where the Donald dishes on his favorite Black Flag albums, songs, singers, and more. Plus a new Cassetty comic!

Reglar Wiglar Zine Review

Auman has in this full-color debut brought readers a hilarious (self) bio penned by the fictitious Robert Studwood Hues, Famous Art Critic; robot stories and fables; profile of forgotten Matty Lou’s Home-Cooked Chicken Dinner 1975-1976; today’s life lesson (“Working with a Hangover”); and bold comics on “Old Hardcore Dudes” and “Cassetty Pays a Visit to a Record Store,” the latter of which features an anthropomorphic cassette tape walking into a bar called The Easy Speaker and engaging in sometimes heated conversations with vinyl records, iPods, and CDs, also anthropomorphized and drinking beer and shooting pool. Reglar Wiglar #27 is anything but regular.—Gina Murrell — Razorcake
