After the Fire
Some personal news: On May 18, 2026, there was a fire in the apartment building where I live with my partner Sarah and our dog Snippet. The fire started in the late afternoon on the stove in our downstairs neighbor’s kitchen. She was not home at the time. Snippet and I got out safely and called 911.
As a result of the fire, smoke, and water damage, about 80 percent of the 3-flat building had to be gutted. That was three months ago. We hope to move back into our newly remodeled apartment in October. We have insurance and that has paid for our many lengthy hotel and Airbnb stays.
Working on projects has been a challenge, especially without the comforts of my creative laboratory. All I have with me at the moment is a laptop, markers, and paper as everything else is wrapped in plastic in a half-gutted apartment several miles away, but it’s enough.
The end of this ordeal is in sight, however, and I have been working to finish the third issue of Ridiculous Fiction. I still hope to publish that this fall so stay tuned, or better yet, sign up for the….
RoosterCow Newsletter

Live @ The Winthrop House
Cock-a-doodle-moo! Check out the latest RoosterCow Records release, Live @ The Winthrop House. This 18-song digital album is accompanied by a 28-page zine documenting a microcosm of Chicago’s underground music scene in the mid-to-late ‘90s. Read my post on this fantastic zine and album on my blog
2025 Publications
In case you missed it in 2025, there were four titles published under the RoosterCow banner. First up was Gray Flag #5, the final issue in this series of writing and drawings I did while a student at Columbia College in the early 1990s.
And there was issue number 5 of Used Records & Tapes as well. If you don’t know, this review zine features a variety of writers, artists, and musicians musing about their favorite albums.
Also, Woodrow Comics #2, came out last year. This comics/zine hybrid explores the exploits of the most notorious and prolific punk band in history.
And finally, the second issue in the Ridiculous Fiction series, Dinky Does His Laundry, hit the racks. This lit zine features stories of silliness and absurdity I wrote in the late ’80s and early ’90s.
