The Flaming Skull of Death Comic

The Flaming Skull of Death comic cover

The Flaming Skull of Death started as a webcomic. It was about eight or ten panels that I drew with a Sharpie on printer paper and colored with Pixlr. It had no real ending and not much of a point to it. I used it as a Easter egg of sorts on my website and forgot it was there.

After rediscovering it one day, it irritated me that I hadn’t finished it and half-assed. So, I decided to salvage it by turning it into something. That something is the The Flaming Skull of Death comic by Chris Auman!

This version tells the terrifying tale of Jonas who receives a cryptic message from his uncle, lord of an ancient castle on the Isle of Crannias. Jonas must decode the message and follow its instructions… or else…

Readers are invited to use the provided key code to decipher the Flaming Skulls’ cryptic message.

Decipher The Flaming Skull of Death Comic

I suspect that not everyone who purchased this comic followed through and deciphered the code. In fact, here’s what comics reviewer Kevin Bramer at the review site Optical Sloth confessed: “True confession time:

“When there’s a code to be broken in a comic, even when the creator is nice enough to put the key to it on the inside back cover (like Chris did), I rarely if ever bother to crack it. Comics shouldn’t be work, is my general theory, but to each their own! Plenty of people would love to crack codes in their comics. I mention this because several key plot points of this one are in code, so buyer beware. Or buyer enjoy! It all depends on your preference.”

To each his own. I do know a few kids who successfully solved the riddle, as it will and I don’t think it is a scary as my humble marketing attempts make it sound.
