The Ridiculous Fiction genre was invented by Chris Auman (Reglar Wiglar zine) to justify the abject silliness of the short stories he wrote in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
#1: Old Joe
Features one short story and a comic. “Old Joe” is a spoof of the classic Man versus Nature literary theme. Will Bill Billson become a man after a successful hunt? “The Sheridan Park Massacre” tells the tale of one rage-filled evening. The horror!
#2: Dinky Does His Laundry
The title story is about a hapless man named Dinky who just wants to do his laundry in peace. Also includes “Rick’s Planet,” in which a god contemplates the plight of his struggling creations. And, most ridiculous, “Death Fungus” is an edge-of-your-seat ride to the end of the universe, but only if you’re a deadly fungus.
#3: Sable, The Telephone Associate
Sable, The Telephone Associate is the third issue of the Chris Auman fiction series. The title story, from the early 90s, is about a telephone solicitor who just cannot pretend to give a dang about his meaningless phone sales job. You could say that he can’t even “phone it in.” The second story, also written in the early 1990s, is a spoof of the popular and intentionally bizarre hit show Twin Peaks, here titled “Twin Pikes”, because, you see, it’s about a pair of fishes. And “California Soup” is what it is. I guess.
