Joey Germ Presents @#$%!!

Joey Germ's Band

In the early 90s, I drew this comic under the punk rock pseudonym of Joey Germ. I never created an outline, or did a story board for them. I didn’t really put much planning into them at all. I just sat down and drew them.

Measuring and drawing the panels was a big pain in the butt for me. Some of these comics are sloppy and I’m a bit embarrassed by them. I was then too, but I published them anyway. The show must go on, the zine had to come out, and it had to have a @#$%!! comic, or so I thought at the time.

At any rate, here they are. These images were scanned from the newsprint zine as the originals are bigger than my scanner can accommodate.

I usually drew these comics in the living room of apartment in Uptown, after a shift on the line at either the Chicago Diner, The Dellwood Pickle, or the Beat Kitchen, depending on the year, and most likely while taking swigs out of a Bud 40 ouncer swaddled in a brown paper bag. Unlike the Lizard Man, however, I never imbibed in the green while drawing. Just couldn’t concentrate if I did that.

Da Demo

This comic was a bit rushed. I probably waited until the entire rest of the zine was laid out and finished and then cranked this one out last minute. Not proud of it.

The first page was published in Reglar Wiglar #4, 1994 with the second page following in Reglar Wiglar #5, 1995.

The Gig

With a demo tape in hand the boys were able to score a gig at their local punk club. Unfortunately, the punks didn’t care for their brand of heavy rock and roll and, uh, shit went down.
